Eglinton Square Dental Centre offers high-quality dentures for those who have missing teeth. Dentures are an affordable replacement option if a disease, accident or poor oral health have left you with only a few teeth or none at all.
There are two types of dentures: partial and complete. A full assessment of your mouth will be done prior to treatment. Our team of dental professionals will make impressions of your teeth, which are then used to create your customized dentures. A more affordable alternative to cosmetic dentistry, these removable devices can boost your confidence and improve overall quality of life.
Often referred to as ‘partials’, these dentures consist of one or more artificial teeth. They’re usually attached to a gum-coloured plastic base, which is sometimes connected by a metal plate. The denture is held in place with metal clasps that secure onto nearby natural teeth.
Partials are good in the following situations:
Partial dentures can be made of plastic or metal. At Eglinton Square Dental Centre, we recommend our patients opt for metal. Usually made from an alloy of cobalt or chromium, metal dentures are much more durable. They’re also much lighter to wear, and can be supported easily by remaining teeth.
Commonly known as ‘false teeth’, full dentures are used when all your natural teeth are missing. Unlike partial dentures that are secured with metal clasps, these devices are held in place by suction. Within this category, there are two types of complete dentures: immediate and conventional.
Immediate dentures are made before your teeth are removed. During your first visit, our dentists make models of your jaws. Once the teeth are extracted, we insert the immediate dentures. The benefit of this method is that you’re not without teeth during the healing period, which can take months. The only drawback is that you may need to come back for a few realignments because gums and bones tend to shrink following tooth extraction.
Conventional dentures are made after your teeth have been removed. Sometimes, it can take up to six months for gums and jaw tissues to fully heal. However the most remodelling of the bone post extractions occurs within 6-8 weeks. After recovery, Eglinton Square Dental Centre will make your custom dentures. Realignments are not usually necessary with this method. The only downside is that you’ll be without teeth during the entire healing period.
Aside from the obvious aesthetic benefits, there are many advantages to getting dentures:
1. Boost in confidence:
A smile is usually the first thing people will notice about you. Missing teeth can make you feel insecure and self-conscious. Dentures can give you the confidence you need by filling in the gaps left by missing teeth.
2. Improved quality of life:
Dentures can restore functionality, allowing you to enjoy your favorite foods once again. With a bit of practice, you’ll be able to chew a variety of foods. If you had difficulty speaking clearly after tooth loss, dentures can also improve speech
3. Cost effective:
Bridges are an outstanding alternative to dentures. Implants are a natural replacement option for missing teeth. But they’re also much more costly. Dentures are one of the cheapest ways to replace missing teeth specially if missing several teeth-- especially if you take extra care to keep your dentures looking great.
At Eglinton Square Dental Centre, we’re committed to helping you feel confident in your smile. Our team offers expertly-fitted dentures that look natural and feel great. So get in touch for a consultation if you’re ready to restore confidence in your oral health!
